Home > Meditations > Beyond words: contemplating with art

In difficult times such as this one,  we can be lost for words. We may even be fed up with words. But words are only part of prayer, only one way of praying. Quiet, contemplative prayer is not some elite occupation, but is in fact for everyone. Since the earliest days of the Church, art has been a major source for contemplative prayer.

Here we offer three works for Lent by Sr. Marie Pavlina Kasparova OP. Sr. Marie is from the Czech Republic and currently a member of St. Catherine’s Convent in Cambridge. She is pursuing doctoral research on communication through art made with light, at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology in Cambridge. You can view more of Sr. Marie’s work on her website.
