Home > LITURGIES > HOLY SATURDAY – TENEBRAE 8 am

Tenebrae (“darkness”), so called from the tradition of progressively extinguishing the candles, is the long Office of Readings and Morning Prayer on Good Friday and Holy Saturday. It is made up of psalms, readings and chants, including the beautiful excerpts of the Lamentations of Jeremiah.

Holy Saturday is the “in between” day, a day of silence: the silence between the Lord’s death and Resurrection. The silence between grief and inextinguishable hope.
