Last Saturday, two other novices and I joined the Dominican students and community at Blackfriars, Oxford, for a day of media training with Jack Valero and Austin Ivereigh, coordinators of Catholic Voices. The day involved exploring how we engage in and with the media, particularly the skills needed for television and radio interviews. It also involved partly looking at example video and audio clips of interviews carried out by young persons associated with Catholic voices; this was then followed by some role plays involving the brethren.

Whether or not I end up on television or radio (again!) the tips I’ve picked up would come in use in conversations with people where I might have to explain or defend the faith or some aspect of Church teaching. Overall, an informative and a fun day for all involved.
